Understanding asthma
Good asthma care includes checking symptoms, inhaler technique and your action plan. If your asthma is stable, an online consultation can help you review your management and organise further care when needed.
Reasons to speak with a doctor
- Questions about an existing asthma management plan
- Reviewing inhalers or repeat prescriptions
- Recurring cough, wheeze or symptoms with exercise
How our doctors can help
- Discuss symptom frequency, triggers and use of reliever medication.
- Review your current treatment and talk about inhaler technique and action plans.
- Arrange appropriate follow-up, lung function testing or in-person care.
When to seek urgent care
An asthma attack is not suitable for online care. Follow your asthma action plan and call 000 if breathing is difficult, you cannot speak comfortably, or your reliever is not helping.

Your questions, answered
Can an asthma attack be treated by telehealth?
No. Acute or severe breathing symptoms need immediate in-person care. Follow your action plan and call 000 if symptoms are severe or not responding to your reliever.
Can I discuss my regular inhaler online?
Yes, for stable asthma. The doctor can review your medicines and symptoms, but examination or lung function testing may be required before changes are made.
Can every condition be treated online?
No. Telehealth is suitable for many non-emergency concerns, but some symptoms need a physical examination, tests or urgent care. Your doctor will explain when an in-person visit is the safer option.
Are doctors available 24/7?
Yes. ConsultNow offers doctor consultations 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, including weekends and public holidays. Waiting times depend on demand.
Will I definitely receive a prescription?
No. All prescriptions, referrals and medical certificates depend on your doctor assessing what is safe and clinically appropriate. Booking a consultation does not guarantee a particular treatment.
